Eternal Security

MY DEFINITION: Salvation is an actual event that occurs when an individual is born again. Once a person believes in his heart that Jesus is his Lord and that Jesus alone is the way to the Father, confesses his need for Jesus to rescue him from his path in life and asks for forgiveness of his lifestyle, this person will go to Heaven when he dies, based on what Jesus did for him at the cross not on any work (or lack of work) he might do in the future.

There are many Bible verses that give the truth that once you become a Christian you are forever in God family because of what Jesus did, said, and is doing today. (Click here for some of these verses)

The following are understandings I have about my peace and joy as one who really believes Jesus is all I need to be forever secure in His love, forgiveness and acceptance.

1. While Christians can grow cold, and not want to be involved with God, and may choose a lifestyle apart from God, God like any good parent will not give up on us. God will not allow us to remain indefinitely in a sinful condition. Jesus as the Good Shepherd goes out of His way to bring us back in right relationship with Him.

How does He do it?

(a) Jesus prays for us. Hebrews 7:25 An example of this type of prayer is found in John 17:11-20.

(b) Jesus speaks to us and reminds us of His love and the truth. The enemy of God operates in lies. John 17:26 Jesus say he won't give up on us. He first set us free by the truth of who God is his character and his plan for our salvation. He says he will CONTINUE to make God our Father known to us. This is Jesus at work when we get tired and may have given up on God for a time.

(c) Jesus goes to the Father on our behalf when we fall into sin. Hebrews 9:24.
